Visited Heckmondwike Petanque Club on the way back from Keighley, West Yorkshire. Formed in February this year, they now have over 50 members! They're a friendly bunch and very well organised. Nice playing surface too. Coffees, teas and biscuits at the end.
Lindsay and I couldn't work out the logic behind the numbering of the pistes though. It went something like... 5-6-4, 1-3-2. Update: See comment by Steven Penny for a plausible explanation.
I think it's 1-5-2 and 3-6-4 – it's so you can split the terrains in half if you've only got a few players and just use pistes 5 and 6 when numbers dictate.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked it. Heckmondwike have the same problems as Bressingham and Diss though – no-one wants to travel outside their local area to play us.
However, the council have been so pleased with the success of Heckmondwike, they're putting terrains into other parks in local towns.
That makes sense, although I think it would have been better to have had a logical order for the pistes (1,2,3, and 4,5,6) and just altered the charts accordingly. So, say for four matches, pistes 1,3,4 and 6 would be used.
