I teamed up with Les Pridham (not pre-arranged) at the Norman Guest Memorial Pairs at the Cottage on Saturday. We'd never played together before although he had beaten me on several occasions before (twice at the coast). Our first match was against Russ and his son Harry (8), both from the Bressingham club and played on the specially built terrain dedicated to Norman. The day went on and somehow we ended with four wins from four and finished in first place! Les is definitely a better player than I had first thought. Anyway we were chuffed with the win (pic to follow maybe).

Bressingham 1, Meadlands 3
Sunday, the Bressingham team entertained Meadlands in the Suffolk Coastal League. Our opponents had only three players (one pulled out at the last minute) so had to forfeit one game. As we had seven players on our team I opted not to play. This gave a chance for Luke and Harry (both 8) to get some match practice. Mike also played his first game (with his new boules). Others included Jenny and regulars Pat and Darren. Unfortunately for us, Meadlands (winners of the competition outright last two seasons) were too strong and the team went down 0, 4 and 6.

Bressingham Bugle
Thank you to Pat for helping us man the 'Target Boules' at the Bressingham School Fete/Flower Show on Saturday. Despite being away from the main field of events, we got good support from the community.
Lindsay assisted the younger ones in making their own 'stick and rubber band notebooks'.

News/league match result
We attended the funeral of Peter Turner in the morning (nice service). Later that day we went along to the Diss Football Club for refreshments and watch a carefully constructed video snapshot of Peter's life, painstakingly put together by Yoshi.

Les Garnier 3, Bressingham Flyers 2
It was first versus second which went to the wire. With Les Garnier leading 2-1 and with Darren and Cyril leading 12-3, all eyes were on Les and new boy Daniel. At eleven all, Dan played two magnificent shots to win the game. In the other, the substantial lead was dwindling and when the jack got accidentally moved, the opponents had acres of room to point in and win the match.
It was also third versus fourth (Diss Vikings v SF Wildcats). It means we drop down into third place whatever the result from that match.

Sunny weather brings a win with it
Bressingham Flyers 4, Norwich Stars 1 (agg 62-39)
There was some fine play by both teams and the terrain held up well considering the dry spell. This win keeps us in touch with the top two. Good to see Cyril returning to the fray.
Thank you to Lindsay and Diane for helping out and to everyone else that brought food and drinks. Next up, Les Garnier who are currently top of the division.

Bressingham through to ASCL Plate Semis
BT Antares Allstars 2, Bressingham 3
Bit of a trek this one but the terrain was one of the best I have encountered (played true). This match went all the way to a decider. Russ and I were trailing 7-2 when I heard that Murray was now two sets up with a break in the third. This seemed to inspire me as we didn't concede any more points after that and came away with a hard earned victory. In between nattering, Harry (only 8) played some fine shots.
Dave/Les won 13-5, Russ/Harry lost 13-5, Les/Russ lost 13-2, Dave/Harry won 13-9. Tie break game... Dave/Russ won 13-7.
We are due to play Gt. Finborough Chesnut Horse in the semi-finals (they have beaten us once already this season). Thank you to Carl, Mark, Matthew and Melanie for the providing food and drinks afterwards.
Bonus ball - just got back to the car in time to tune in to the last few points in the Murray/Djokovic match... couldn't believe it (the radio was on full blast). A super human effort by Andy.. he gave it everything!

Plate KO snippet
SF Wanderers Dolphins 4, Bressingham Flyers 1
The triple of Pat/Darren/Les were 11-0 up in their game but their opponents (Ted/Josh/Margaret) made an unlikely comeback. All pairs lost (Pat and I only managed one point). Scorecard has gone missing again
(not such a bad thing really).
Latest - scorecard has turned up but I can't be bothered to scan it now. Next league match is against Norwich Stars at our place.

Nine Boules Triples - St. Faiths
A bit late with this but that's how it is these days...
I was invited to play alongside Peter Astle and Richard Green at this strange event. It is possible to win in two ends but teams normally pick up one, two, three or four points per end (sometimes more).
Our first game was against three complete beginners (a lot more difficult than it sounds). Our second included a team with one experienced player and two newbies (close game). The upshot of all this is that we managed four wins from four, finishing second overall.
I'm in trouble as I forgot to mention Darren, Luke and Les who also took part.

Passing away of a friend
This weekend, Dave and I were greatly saddened to hear of the death of Peter Turner, one of the original members of Diss Waveney Petanque Club.
Peter
was certainly one of the characters of the town and will be missed by his fellow
players.
We send our condolences to
Yoshi.
Lindsay.
